I am planning with the help of Dr. Titta Kotilainen to implement some self study courses on statistics and R in Moodle. It will take months if not years to get all this ready, but some days ago I have started working on this.
Possible titles for the courses:
- Design and statistical analysis of experiments: A second course in applied statistics for biologists with examples in R. (nickname “baby ANOVA”) To include ANOVA, regression and ANCOVA, multiple comparisons and contrasts. 2 credit points. (To be implemented in 2011 or 2012. Mostly material on statistics, but will include example analyses done in R.)
- Basic introduction to R. (nickname “yet another introduction”.) Nothing new, except for self study and assessment in Moodle. 1 credit point. (To be implemented for testing in 2011.)
- Publication quality advanced graphics in R. (no nickname yet.) Mostly Lattice and ggplot2. 1 credit point. (To be implemented in 2012.)
- Plant growth analysis and other repeated measurements data analysis in R. (nickname “growth with R”). Details not decided. (To be implemented after 2011.)
Please comment. If you are a student do you think that any of these planed courses would be useful to you? Which one would you like to have available first?
Pedro.

I have made some progress with the notes for the first of this courses. About 20% done.
Maybe 25% done now. I have been working on other things lately.
Titta Kotilainen moved to Valoya Oy and is not working any longer at our department. Because of this, the preparation of these new courses is badly delayed. I’ll see what can be done, but do not expect them to be ready soon.
