Higher education is valuable all around the world. Although the educational system differs in many important ways from country to country, all nations have experienced similar trends, reforms, and narratives related to expansion, diversification and inequalities in higher education. Many of the contemporary themes and issues in equality research would benefit from a comparative and cross-contextual approach. We want to stay reflective and critical to the dominant discourse on national competition in a name of ‘excellence’. Instead, we want to vision a global higher education community based on genuine co-operation, mutual understanding and true appreciation. We explore policies and practices that build bridges and create possibilities for global collaboration in academia.
