Education, Cultures and the Arts

The Research Centre for Education, Cultures and the Arts was established in 2000. The centre has approximately 20 researching teachers representing various areas of arts and physical education.  In addition, approximately 15 students are engaged in their postgraduate studies in the field under the auspices of the centre.

The aims of the Research Centre for Education, Cultures and the Arts are:
1) To coordinate and develop teaching provided by the Department of Teacher Education.
2) To coordinate and develop research in arts and physical education: to support researchers and launch scientific research projects.
3) To disseminate information on research in the arts and physical education research; to organise meetings for educators of the arts and physical education teachers in order to disseminate up-to-date research information.
 4) To implement commissioned research in the arts and physical education and to recruit necessary researcher personnel.
5) To establish and maintain both national and international contacts with researchers and researcher networks in the arts and physical education.

The Research Centre for Education, Cultures and the Arts has subject-specific and cross-disciplinary teaching and research groups headed by the professor Heikki Ruismäki:

  • Teaching and research group in drama education and culture
  • Teaching and research group in visual arts education and visual culture
  • Teaching and research group in crafts education and material culture
  • Teaching and research group in physical and health education and sports culture
  • Teaching and research group in music education and culture
  • Teaching and research group in arts and physical education
