The biannual meeting of the Centre of Excellence in Evolutionary Genetics and Physiology (www.coe.fi) – this time held in Biocity Turku (Oct 21-22) – was a success of many dimensions. At least five CoE manuscripts became accepted for publication in various international journals (e.g. Animal Behaviour, Journal of Thermal Biology, Evolution, Marine Ecology Progress Series & PLoS One) during the meeting. Bob preached about blogging and managed to hit the red pin entitling himself for a free beer. Other highlights included numerous fabulous talks and results, including plans for cunning experiments and analyses to come. Prospects embedded into the new sequencing technologies created a lot of excitement and discussion, as did the issues related to oxidative stress and hypoxia. And the best part is yet to come – all those wonderful results based on ideas hatched out during this constructive meeting.
