Sticklebacks go to Seattle

The Seventh International Stickleback Conference on Stickleback Behavior and Evolution will be near Seattle, WA from July 29-August 3, 2012 (previous was in 2010 in Leicester)

The meeting will begin the evening of Sunday July 29 and end at noon on August 3, 2012. It will be held on Bainbridge Island, a short ferry ride from downtown Seattle which is easily accessible via public transportation from SeaTac International airport (SEA). The venue for the meeting is IslandWood, a non-profit environmental learning center located on 255 forested acres.

Registration: Website for the meeting that will provide more detailed information and it will be launched during summer 2011. A call for early registration will be announced this summer (closing Dec 29, 2011), with final registration and abstract submission by April 29, 2012. Participation will be limited to 150 participants.

Funding: The stickleback meeting is mostly funded through registration fees. The costs to attend will cover the cost of lodging/food and will be in line with the costs to attend previous meetings.

    Why is someone at The Hutch working on sticklebacks…?

    If anyone wants to go birding in Seattle, apparently Montlake Fill is the place to go. If you can get GrrlScientist over, she’d be more than happy to take you round.

    A dump? Is it not curious that the best birding spots all around the world are either garbage dumps or other ruderate areas – usually the worse, the better the birds.
