I know every PhD-student should know how to give a pitch-talk. To sell your research to stakeholders during a elevator ride or to describe your research with a few words to colleague during a conference. Well, it is often easier said than done. Especially for us shy and modest Finns.
Popular webcomics “Piled Higher and Deeper“ or PhD-comics, is now offering a change to prepare that award winning pitch talk, and even get the award out of it! Namely they offer you a change to get your thesis to be animated by Jorge Cham (the guy who draws the comic) and people can then vote for best animation. All you need to do is to send a two minute audio file where you (or even someone else) describe what your thesis is about. Winner gets fame and lots of PhD-comics related stuff!

Now I just wonder who has sexiest voice in EGRU? Or is Stephen Fry available??

Scott, definitely!! (à la “Brain cutters”)
Agreed!
But speaking of science communication, the live feed from Cern today clearly showed how difficult it is to explain complicated things in simple ways. Even the Guardian is asking for help: How to explain Higgs boson to seven-years-old?
