Welcome to the website “Emotions and the Cultural History of the World Wars”!

Over the past few decades, the cultural history of war & military has become one of the most active and innovative fields of historical scholarship. The study of human experiences and emotions has had an important role in this development. Now, as the history of emotions is gaining ever-widening interest, we seek to bring together historians to discuss both the empirical and methodological issues of war and emotions at the times of the world wars.

This is the aim of the conference “Emotions and the Cultural History of the World Wars,” to be organized at the University of Helsinki on 24–25 September 2014.

Deadline for submitting proposals has ended on 15 April. Online registration for the accepted participants is now open here.
