Evolving continents (ECO) research community at the Department of Geosciences and Geography, has an opening for a
POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER
in the field of structural geology and metamorphic petrology for two years starting from the 1st of August 2012. The position is funded by the Finnish Academy funded MIDCRUST-research consortium. The consortium studies 3D evolution of thickened Precambrian continental crust and focuses on post-collisional processes.
PDR is expected to take part in the ongoing field experiments in central and southern Finland and to collaborate with the other consortium members from the Universities of Helsinki, Oulu, Åbo and Turku and the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK). We expect PDR to also active international collaboration. Office and laboratories are located at the Kumpula Science campus, Department of Geosciences and Geography. Some of the infrastructure is at the Geological Survey of Finland, located in the capital area.
Qualification requirements for the position include doctoral degree in metamorphic and/or structural geology.The applicant must have good skills in English. According to the Government Decree on Universities, PDFs are required to be competent in Finnish. They must also have at least satisfactory spoken and written skills in Swedish. Foreign citizens, non-native Finnish citizens or citizens who have not been educated in Finnish or Swedish may be exempted from this requirement without a separate application.
The salary will be based on levels 5 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance.
