Xenia Zeiler is tenure track professor of South Asian Studies at the University of Helsinki, Finland. Her research is situated at the intersection of digital media, culture, religion, and India and the worldwide Indian community. Her research foci are video games/gaming in India, digital Hinduism, global Hinduism, Ethno-Indology and Tantric traditions. She is author of numerous articles and book chapters on mediatized and digital Hinduism, including the first ever article on video games and Hinduism, on popular culture and religion in contemporary India, on global Hinduism, and of a monograph on transformations of Tantric traditions.

Her current projects include an edited volume on Digital Hinduism, a co-edited volume on Mediatized Religion in Asia, a co-edited volume on Methods for researching Video Games and Religion, the Digital Humanities Initiative India-Finland and Video Gaming and Cultural Heritage in Asia. Together with Kerstin Radde-Antweiler, she is co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of gamevironments. games, religion, and stuff (http://www.gamevironments.org/), the first academic journal with a specific focus on video gaming, religion and culture.
