Transport

See www.reittiopas.fi for route instructions of local transport in Helsinki.

For instructions on getting from the Airport to the City Centre, please see https://www.finavia.fi/en/helsinki-airport/to-and-from/

Accommodation

There is a wide variety of accommodation possibilities near the venue. Unfortunately, Helsinki is a rather expensive city, but we have negotiated conference prices with a couple of hotels. To get the discounted price, mention the appropriate discount code, sent previously in the info letter, when making your reservation.

Hotelli Arthur (www.hotelarthur.fi) , which is situated just across the road from the University building (1 min walk). The conference discount prices are:

  • Standard room for one 105 €/night (110 € with a double bed); Comfort room for one 115 €/night
  • Standard room for two 125 €/night with separate beds (130 € with a double bed); Comfort room for two 135 €/night

In addition, there might be cheaper “lower class” rooms available at the Hotelli Arthur. You can enquire about them directly from the hotel.

Also for the two hotels of the Omena Hotel franchise we have negotiated discounts. The discounted price is 89 € per night (room for 1–2 persons). For information on the Omena Hotels see https://www.omenahotels.com/en/hotels/helsinki-lonnrotinkatu-en/ and https://www.omenahotels.com/en/hotels/helsinki-yrjonkatu-en/ . Both are situated in the centre of Helsinki within a walking distance from the University. These hotels are walk-in-hotels without reception.

For Forenom Aparthotel Helsinki City there is a discounted price for May 14–18: 327,77 € in total. For more information see the attached file and http://search.forenom.com/aparthotels/forenom-aparthotel-helsinki-city/2869 . This hotel is also situated within walking distance from the University.

If there are any problems with the discount codes, please let us know.

Lunches

There will be no organized lunches, but there are many good restaurants (with relatively cheap prices) to have lunch located near the University. Some of them are listed below:

The Unicafe restaurants (www.unicafe.fi) offer cheap meals (especially cheap for students, moderate for others) but they are often crowded. There is one Unicafe located in Unioninkatu 40 and also others in the nearby University buildings.

Within the Helsingin yliopisto Metro station (formerly known as ”Kaisaniemi metro station”; this can be very confusing as the old name appears even in Google Maps) there are many restaurants where you can have affordable buffet lunch: GoogleMaps

Amica Cafe Hausen (Rauhankatu 17) at the National Archives is also popular among the university staff (open till 14:30).

Restaurant Piano (Rauhankatu 15) is also located nearby and offers tasty buffet lunch (open till 14 pm).
