Laura Tarkka-Robinson

In her PhD project on the transnational career of Rudolf Erich Raspe (1736-1794), Dr Laura Tarkka-Robinson examined the challenges of intellectual communication between different cultures of learning during the Enlightenment period. In her thesis, she concluded that while the late eighteenth-century Enlightenment culture promoted material progress and emphasised the importance of disseminating knowledge, progress tended to be represented it terms which nurtured national particularism.
