Shared City

Shared city is an urban research project with ethnological and ethnographical emphasis. The aim of our project is to make the randomness but also the everydayness of interethnic encounters visible. It is something all the users of urban spaces experience and practice in their everyday agency, and as such, calls for more detailed understanding and analysis.

In our project, we want to:

• identify the ways space is connected with interethnic encounters.
• increase understanding about meanings and emotional bonds connected with city spaces.
• To produce methods using cultural knowledge to support city planning.

The project is funded by the Helsinki Metropolitan region urban research program and is ongoing from 1.2.2017–31.5.2018.
