Justice through Education

Thursday 16th May 2013, 10 am – 5 pm

Siltavuorenpenger 5A, University of Helsinki,

Faculty of Behavioural Sciences

The Centre for Sociology of Education, University of Helsinki invites researchers, teachers and students interested in sociological and cultural studies of education to the 2013 Justice through Education –seminar, the 15th in a series of annual seminars arranged by the centre.

Seminar Theme

This year, the seminar examines justice as an ideal and ambiguous term, as a policy and a practice, with various aims and consequences. Current changes in society pose important challenges to the understanding of why and how justice through education is attained. What do we mean when we talk about justice in education? What is the role of justice in education and educational research? How can the concept of justice be put into work in research?

Participants are invited either to present their own research paper, or to participate in the seminar without a paper. The seminar is free of charge for all, and open to the general public.
