Open lectures: ‘Policy, Politics and the Political in Education’, November 14-15, 2013

JustEd research team 1 and the Master´s Degree Program in Sociology and Politics in Education (KSP) at University of Helsinki jointly organise the seminar “Policy, Politics and the Political in Education” in Helsinki on November 14-15, 2013. Keynote speakers are Professor Peter Dahler-Larsen (University of Copenhagen), Academy Professor Pertti Alasuutari (University of Tampere) and Associate Expert/Researcher Tuuli Kurki (Section for Teacher Development and Education Policies, UNESCO, Paris).

The seminar lectures are open to the public and free of charge. No registration is needed.

Call for papers

The first NCoE JustEd biannual conference Justice through Education: Marketisation and equity in embedded contexts will be organized as a pre-conference to the NERA 42nd Congress in Lillehammer, Norway, March 4-5, 2014.

Conference theme

Over the last 40 years we observe across Europe extensive reforms of education systems that accompany wider reforms of the welfare states and political institutions. Also in the Nordic countries, the idea of universal welfare has, especially from the 1990s onwards, been increasingly affected by marketisation due to the market-oriented and globalised economy’s close connections with educational policy. Given this changing educational landscape, this conference aims to shed light on the impact of marketisation on the issue of justice in educational policies, discourses, schooling and everyday practices, and educational outcomes, within Nordic and other educational contexts.
