The working group

The working group on “Population ageing and its social consequences” is located at the department of social research at Helsinki University. It is led by Kathrin Komp, assistant professor in sociology, and its members stem from the disciplines of sociology and social policy at this department. The working group is part of the population research unit.

The members of this working group study a range of topics related to old age and population ageing, often in a country-comparative perspective. Example topics are:

  • life-course structures,
  • policy reforms in reaction to population ageing,
  • older workers and retirees,
  • influence of the economic crisis on older people and on population ageing,
  • simulations of the future development of population ageing and
  • intergenerational relations.

This homepage introduces the members of the working group and some of their research.
