Research. I am a sociologist focusing on sociology of health and illness, substance abuse, regulation off deviance and risks and social and health services and delivery of care in the context of the (post)welfare state. I use qualitative methods including discourse analysis, interviews and ethnography.

I work as a postdoctoral researcher in professor Marja-Liisa Honkasalo’s research project ‘Vulnerable Lives’. I am conducting a multi-sited ethnography of the pharmazeuticalisation of Finnish opioid addiction treatment in close collaboration with PhD Riikka Perälä.

My recent PhD study focused on the regulation of risks of prenatal substance use: ”Precarious pregnancies. Alcohol, drugs and the regulation of risks”.

Teaching. In 2013-2014 I taught courses on sociology of social exclusion and qualitative research methods . I supervise master’s theses on various topics – students are encouraged to get in touch if they are looking for a supervisor close to the areas of my expertise.
