Kumpula Campus Library’s service desk is closed on Thu, May 16

On Thursday, May 16, Kumpula Campus Library’s customer service desk is closed due to the staff development day. Library premises are open and available on a self-service basis 8-18.

At the Self Service Library you can borrow and return material as well as use work stations and study.

When the customer service is closed you can not

  • pay fees at the counter
  • get a temporary account to the wireless network (HUPNet-accounts)
  • get a key to reserved mobile storage unit
  • get ID Point identification service
  • get any personal instruction.

Customer service is normally open on Thursday in other library locations.

Are you wondering about submitting your thesis? About when you will be getting a proposal for the thesis grade? About how to publish your thesis in University’s publication repository? About where Master’s theses are archived?

Come over to Guidance Corner to ask questions and discuss on Monday, May 6 at 12-14!

Experts from the Student Services and the Library will guide you through submitting your digital Master’s thesis and give advice concerning thesis assessment, approval, publishing and archiving. If your thesis has already been approved, you can also permit its publication in the open publication repository.

Opening hours during May Day

Opening hours on Tuesday April 30th:

– Main Library, Kaisa House 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. (customer service 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
– Kumpula, Meilahti and Viikki Campus Libraries 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. (customer service 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

On Wednesday, May 1st, all library facilities and learning centres are closed.

There is no night use in the Learning Centre Aleksandria between 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30th and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1st.

Opening hours during Easter 18.4.-22.4.

During Easter the libraries are closed from Good Friday April 19th until Easter Monday April 22nd, 2019.

On Maundy Thursday (April 18th), the libraries are open as follows:
– Kaisa House  8 a.m. – 6 p.m (customer service 10 a.m. – 6 p.m).
– Kumpula, Terkko and Viikki 8 a.m. – 4 p.m (customer service 10 a.m. – 4 p.m).

Learning Centres Aleksandria and Minerva are open 8 a.m. – 5:45 p.m. on Maundy Thursday. Aleksandria can be accessed with magnetic key during Easter (from 7 a.m. until 1 a.m.).

Guidance Corner opening week at Kaisa House April 9-11th, 2019

Welcome to the opening of Guidance Corner, University students and staff!

During the opening week you can experience and get to know activities organized at Guidance Corner throughout the year. You can update your CV and job application, join an exercise session, try on a virtual reality headset, check how much you know about our University or Moodle, discuss open science, take a selfie or write your greetings to the parliamentary elections on the Student Union’s photo wall.

There’s also a chance to express your thoughts and opinions on what your dream Guidance Corner would look like in the future!

Do you need help in your research or thesis writing process? Are you challenged with the overwhelming volume of published scientific research? Join the workshop at your campus and get started with Iris.ai – your science assistant.

The Iris.ai team will guide you how to semi-automate the discovery and literature review parts of your research process. In this workshop you’ll learn to create your first exploration maps, refine the results, and compile a reading list with the help of the artificial intelligence assistant.

Who is it for?

The event is open and free for all University of Helsinki students, researchers and staff members. During the 2-hour workshop you will see a demo of how to get started with your Iris.ai Premium account and put the tools to the test. This is also a great opportunity to ask questions and receive invaluable support from Iris.ai team.

Hello students of Kumpula Campus!

A couple of events are being held on the 2nd floor of the Campus Library (UbiKampus) in March:

  • On Friday March 15 a Hackathon will take over the Ubikampus for the entire day, and
  • On Friday March 22 there will be a Catalysts Coding Contest at 14.30-21.

The Library is now asking your feedback about organizing events: what kind of events you find suitable for the Library’s 2nd floor? At which times and on which areas of the Library would you prefer the events to be held?

Come and work with your data management plan! Spring 2019 DMPTuuli workshops

Do you wish to learn the best practices of research data management and get hands-on training of data management planning (DMP)? Take part in the DMPTuuli workshop!

In the DMPTuuli workshops, we will concentrate on the best practices of research data management and hands-on training of data management planning (DMP). During the workshop, we go through the Academy of Finland’s current DMP template (see Academy’s Call texts, under Upcoming calls). The DMPs are drafted with DMPTuuli (data management planning tool) – please, sign up for DMPTuuli account in advance!

Workshops are open and free of charge for all UH students, researchers and staff members. The primary language of the workshop will be English. Help and instructions are also available in Finnish.
