Library’s opening hours during and after the Midsummer

From the Midsummer, Friday June 21st on, Kumpula, Meilahti and Viikki Campus Libraries will be closed. Main Library Kaisa House and Learning Centre Aleksandria will also have shorter opening hours. From June 24th to August 25th Kaisa House is open 8:00-18:00 (customer service 10:00-18:00) on weekdays. On Saturdays, the library is closed.

Opening hours at Midsummer

Thursday, June 20

  • Main Library Kaisa House is open 8-18, customer service 10-18.
  • Learning Centre Aleksandria is open 8-17:45.
  • Learning Centre Minerva is open 8-15:45.
  • Kumpula, Meilahti and Viikki Campus Libraries are open 8-16, customer service 10-16.

At Midsummer, June 21-23, the learning centres and all library locations are closed. Aleksandria can be accessed with magnetic key during Midsummer (from 7 a.m. until 1 a.m.).

Opening hours on Ascension Day, May 29th-30th

On Wednesday May 29th libraries are open as follows:
– Main Library 8-18, customer service 10-18
– Kumpula, Meilahti and Viikki Campus Libraries 8-16, customer service 10-16

Learning Centres Aleksandria and Minerva are open 8-17:45.

On Thursday May 30th (Ascension Day) libraries and learning centres are closed.
Aleksandria can be accessed with the magnetic key.

On Trial: The Making of the Modern World until 20.6

The Making of the Modern World is available until 20.6 in the University of Helsinki.

We have access to the 3 parts of the Making of the Modern World:

The Goldsmiths´-Kress Library of Economic Literature, 1450-1914 (part 1) as a primary source offers ways to understand  the emergence of modern economics and other social sciences. This collection includes the study of early economic, political, business and social history and for researching the literature of economics from this period.

The Making of Modern World: Part II, 1851-1914 takes the series to the end of the nineteenth century. Comprised mainly of monographs, reports, correspondence, speeches, and surveys, this collection broadens the international coverage of social, economic, and business history, as well as political science, technology, industrialization, and the birth of the modern corporation.

The Making of the Modern World: Part III, 1890-1945 takes The Making of the Modern World series deeper into the twentieth century covering the key events that have shaped the modern world like the First World War, the Great Depression, and the Second World War.

Summertime begins at the campus libraries on May 20th. Check the opening hours!

Opening hours at the Kumpula, Meilahti and Viikki campus libraries in the summer are:

  • 20.5.-20.6. Mon-Fri 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Meilahti beginning on 27.5.), customer service 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • 21.6.-4.8. closed
  • 5.8.-25.8. Mon-Fri 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., customer service 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Long loan periods will start on May 23th for books with a 28 day loan period, 6.6. for 14 day loans and 18.6. for two day loans. These elongated loan periods do not affect books loaned from the Main Library Kaisa House, as it is open whole the summer.

When the campus libraries are closed, you can contact the Main Library Kaisa House customer service at the 3rd floor which is open with regular opening hours until Midsummer. Starting on 24.6. the customer service is open Mon-Fri 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

On Wednesday, May 1st, all library facilities and learning centres are closed.

There is no night use in the Learning Centre Aleksandria between 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30th and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1st.

The Making of Modern Law is available in the University of Helsinki until 16.5.

We have access to the following modules:

Foreign Primary Sources, 1600-1970, Part I and II

–  Part I and II are digital collections of historical legal codes and similar statutory materials, as well as commentaries on codes from around the world.

Foreign, Comparative and International Law, 1600-1926

– complements the award-winning The Making of Modern Law: Legal Treatises, 1800-1926. Coverage is primarily from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, but there are also several hundred classics in European international law since the seventeenth century.
