South Asia Archive is interdisciplinary and provides cultural and historical material from across the Indian sub-continent, covering the period mid-18th to mid-20th century. On trial until December 31st.

ChinaMaxx is a collection of e-books connected to the same platform as the search engine Duxiu. Here you can find 700 000  Chinese titles focusing on social sciences and humanities. On trial until October 31st.

E-books from ISEAS – Yosuf Ishak Institute. ISEAS Publishing is the largest publisher of academic books that focuses on Southeast Asian politics, economics and social issues. This collection of ISEAS e-books covers a selection of 594 titles from 1980 – 2017. On trial until October 31st.

Explore unique, first-hand accounts of the cultural interactions and conflicts that gave rise to today’s modern China with essential primary source collections for researchers of China in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Trial: China: Trade, Politics & Culture until 27.3.

Featuring a range of English-language primary sources relating to China and the West, 1793-1980, China: Trade, Politics & Culture is designed to give insight into the changes wrought upon China during this period.

With manuscripts encompassing events from the earliest English embassy to the birth and early years of the People’s Republic, key documents relating to the Chinese Maritime Customs service and original reports of the Amherst and Macartney embassies. Correspondence relating to the first Opium War, survivors’ descriptions of the Boxer War and diaries and personal photographs of the Bowra family offer glimpses of real life in China. There are also significant sources describing the lives and work of missionaries in China from 1869-1970, including extensive and fully searchable runs of missionary periodicals.

Several Asian studies resources are now on trial in AsiaPortal. Of special interest are South Asia Archive and NKnews.

South Asia Archive contains books and journals on various subjects ranging from culture to medicine from the 18th to the 20th century.

NKnews is a news and intelligence service concentrating on North Korea. The service contains tools for analysis, which, for instance, make it possible to track the North Korean leaders.

Other trials are the Chinese Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) net Database and Social Sciences Journals Database from Renmin university and the Japanese Fuzoku Gaho Magazine.

The South Asia Archive is a searchable digital archive of diverse material, mainly primary resources, from the mid-18th to the mid-20th Century. Focusing on South Asia, the Archive contains both reports, rare books, and journal runs. The documents in the Archive reflects the varied range of knowledge production in colonial and early post-colonial India in fields including:    culture & society, industry & economy, science, technology & medicine, urban planning & administration, politics & law.

The material is sourced from collectors and archivists in India by the South Asia Research Foundation.

NKnews

An independent, privately owned specialist site focused on North Korea. Content includes access to selected newspapers and journals, news aggregator, intelligence analysis, expert surveys, in-depth articles, and tools and data about North Korea.

Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) net Database

The Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC) net Database includes research report databases and special databases. The platform provides series of information products including DRC Report, Macroeconomic Report, Finance China, Industry Economic Report, Financial and Economic Database-Statistical Database for Various Industries and so on, in all 36 bibliographic databases and 56 statistical databases. In Chinese.

Social Sciences Journals Database from Renmin university

Social Sciences Journals Database from Renmin university includes full-text access to journals in the areas of political and social sciences, law, philosophy, economics and management, literature and arts, education, history, cultural information, media and others since 1995. In Chinese.

JKBooks Fuzoku Gaho

On request, we have a new trial to Fuzoku Gaho. Fuzoku Gaho was the first graphic magazine produced in Japan, and is also known as a major journal source for the research of customs and social mores.

The magazine was published from 1889 to 1916 and contains a total of 518 issues covering content pertaining to social and cultural trends and conditions in the Edo, Meiji and Taisho periods, customs, history, literature, things/objects and affairs, geography (regional and world), war and disasters.

Fuzoku Gaho is a part of JapanKnowledge and will be available on trial via the Library section of JapanKnowledge from 15 October.

Please note: the trial is available from 15 October until 14 November 2016.
