The Doctoral Programme for History and Cultural Heritage and the research project Nature in Arts, Culture, and History. Temporal Sedimentations of Landscape and the Diversity of Nature (Academy of Finland) organise a working seminar (1 study point) at December, 16^th, for doctoral students and early career post docs.

Time: Friday, December 16^th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Place: Art History Seminar Room (University Main Building, Unioninkatu 34, 4^th floor,  Senate’s Square side) The working seminar consists of a lecture by Professor Paul Sutter in the morning followed by work-in-progress oral presentations by participants in the afternoon. Paul Sutter is a professor of History at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Paul has published numerous articles and book chapters on the American wilderness movement, southern environmental history, US imperial environmental history, and environmental historiography. See more:

Participants are expected to give a 20-minute oral presentation of their work-in-progress on the theme of environmental humanities as well as to submit a one page abstract of their presentation in Moodle by December 9^th before the seminar. The presentations are followed by 20 minutes of discussion. Participants are expected to read the working paper abstracts beforehand.

There are spaces for 6-7 presentations in the workshop. If there are more doctoral students than can be accepted, priority will be given to students of the Doctoral Programme for History and Cultural Heritage. In addition to Paul Sutter, members of the research team (Professor Mikko Saikku, Professor Hanna Johansson, PhD Matti Hannikainen, PhD student Tuija Kirkinen, PhD Petteri Kummala) will discuss presentations. The workshop includes lunch and afternoon coffee break as well as an own-cost dinner.

Further instruction on how to submit papers in Moodle are sent to those accepted to the seminar by November 25th. Working language of the seminar is English.
