NordWel workshop: Social reforms and cultural inclusion – Historical examples from rural and urban settings

NordWel Workshop in Turku 28.6.2011
Åbo Akademi University
Arken, Tehtaankatu 2, Turku

This workshop will highlight the history of social policy in Hungary, Finland and Scandinavia. The seminar discusses how notions of class, ethnic difference and gender have shaped ideas about social reform, social inclusion and exclusion. One aim is to establish a link between two somewhat different fields of historical inquiry: agricultural history and the history of social policy. The construction of masculinity via welfare programs will also be investigated.
