Travel grants for PhD students and other researchers

NCoE NordWel provides PhD students and postdoctoral and senior researchers with travel grants for shorter visits abroad. The support is available for:

  • PhD students students enrolled and active in any NordWel partner unit and postdoctoral and senior researchers active in NordWel. Travel grants may be used for participation in conferences with relevance to NordWel’s research agenda or for shorter visits to a partner institution or an institution (e.g. an archive) otherwise relevant to the Centre.
  • PhD students and postdoctoral and senior researchers (non-members) participating in activities (PhD courses, seminars, conferences etc.) organised by NordWel.

To qualify for a conference travel grant the applicant has to present a paper in the conference. The travel grant can covers travel costs, accommodation and participation fee. (If the paper is to be revised into a publication the support may also include grant for language revision).

Travel grants for shorter visit to a partner institution or archives may cover travel and accommodation costs. Subsistence expenses may be compensated up to a fixed sum. Travel grant awardees are required to submit a short report within one month after the end of their visit.

How to apply

Travel grants can be applied for at any given time. Applications should contain following information:

  • time, destination and purpose of the trip
  • estimated costs
  • abstract of your paper (conference)
  • short research plan
  • contact information

Applications should be addressed to the Director of the Centre, Pauli Kettunen and sent to Coordinator Heidi Haggrén, heidi.haggren(at) helsinki.fi
