School of Social Work, Lund University

Vanna Nordling is interested in social workers who actively choose to support undocumented migrants in southern Sweden. In the encounters with undocumented migrants, social workers are sometimes acting in a grey zone: the interpretations of laws, as well as social work practices, differ. Social workers therefore have possibilities to act on own intitiatives, broadening or narrowing down the inclusion of undocumented migrants in relation to the welfare state. Central themes in the study are citizenship practices, the division between what is seen as professional and what is seen as private, and the balance between charity and social change.
