Advocacy workshop
HYVÄT’s workshop on advocacy on Monday 11 February at 6-8 pm. The theme for the workshop was advocacy, and we discussed current matters in doctoral education that HYVÄT and the PhD representatives should be bringing up in discussions with the university.

Sitsit – Swedish Night
Friday 7th September at Kattosauna Sivistys (Leppäsuonkatu 11).
An academic dinner party to kick off the academic year. Now organised for the second time, with the theme of “A Swedish Night” the dinner party took the form of crayfish party. This is a tradition of the Swedish speaking minority in Finland that today has spread also to Finnish speaking circles. As usual, the dinner included a three course dinner, drinking, and lots of singing.

The seminar takes place the 16 January at 17:00–20:00 in meeting room Wilhelmsson (New Student House, Mannerheimintie 5A, 5th floor).

Pub Night
Wednesday 13 December all members and their friends are welcome to the last pub night of the year. This time we meet in bar Musta kissa in Kallio, Toinen linja, 15.
Christmas party
Wednesday 29th November all members and their friends are welcome to join HYVÄT for our annual Christmas party!
Place: room Rydman at Kaivokatu 10 A, 9th floor.
Time: Wednesday November 29th at 6 pm
In order to wish everyone happy holidays, we also invite you to participate in our Secret Santa event at the party and to bring a small gift (5e max) with you. (This is of course volontary) If you are not familiar with the concept, the idea is that everyone who brings a small gift will also get one in return.
Later, from 10 pm onwards, we are having an after party in pub Kitty’s located at Keskuskatu 6. Join us there if you can’t make it to the party itself. Tis the Season!
Autumn meeting
All members are welcome the Autumn meeting on Wednesday 8 November at 18.00 in the meeting room Seppele at Leppäsuonkatu 11, 1st floor.
Come to meet and socialize on the autumn meeting where next year’s board is elected and next year’s action plan, budget and membership fees are decided. It is an excellent opportunity to influence the associations future and meet people. If you are not a member yet but want to come, sign up quickly!

PhD Kick-Off
Tuesday, October 31st, 2017 at 4-7pm at the City Hall in Helsinki, Pohjoisesplanadi 11-13.
This is a brand new event organised for the first time: orientation and networking for newly arrived doctoral candidates in the UH. It is an excellent opportunity to find out about living, studying, and working in Helsinki and in the University of Helsinki. You can visit the information booths on immigration, finances, housing, healthcare, free time and all sorts. In addition, you will meet your fellow doctoral candidates, mingle and make friends, and get familiar with different societies that bring doctoral candidates together, work for their well-being, or support their carreer networks.
The event is organized in collaboration with the City of Helsinki, the University of Helsinki, and the Association of University of Helsinki PhD Students (HYVÄT).

All members (and their friends!) are welcome to enjoy a drink and relax with fellow doctoral students. This time we meet near the Kumpula campus.
HYVÄT goes sitsit – A Finnish Night
Friday 8 September 2017 at Kattosauna Sivistys (Sauna2 Kamppi, Leppäsuonkatu 11).
Sitsit, or an “academic dinner party” is a Finnish student tradition which includes a three-course dinner, eating, drinking and lots of singing. The dress code is smart casual. After the dinner, there is an option for sauna (remember to bring your own towels and swimming suits). There are places for the 40 first registrants. The participation fee for sitsit is 5 euros and the event is open all members who have paid this year’s HYVÄT membership fee. The sauna afterparty is open for everyone and free of charge.
Spring get-together – 20 May 2017 at 18.00-21.00. All members are welcome to spend a relaxed evening with their fellow PhD students, enjoy snacks and refreshments and get a chance to hear about whats going on in the association. After 9pm we continue the evening with an afterparty in pub Thristy Scholar at Fabianinkatu 37. First drink is on the house!
Writing Boot Camp – Thursday 11 May 2017. Come and join us for a day of intensive writing and spend the day rigiously working to meet your writing goals. We will provide the place and space (and coffee!) for writing, just bring your writing materials. This event is open to all interested students but space is limited, so please let us know if plan on attending. We look forward to seeing you there!
Spring Social
Tuesday 28 March 2017 at 17.30-22.00 in the Seppele meeting room, 1st floor of Domus Gaudium, Leppäsuonkatu 11.
Spring meeting and socialising combined: meet the board and other PhD students at our Spring Social! We’ll provide some delicious Iranian food, drinks, music, and as always, good company. The board members will brief you on what the association was up to last year and give you an overview of our aims for year 2017. Last year’s board will offically be relieved of any responsibility.
