Reciprocity in Early Adulthood During Labour Market Training

The subproject started in the spring of 2011 in collaboration between the University of Helsinki, Department of Teacher Education, Väestöliitto – the Family Federation of Finland and Edupoli, which is an educational institution providing labour market training for young adults. Aim of the research is to analyse the changes in the daily rhythm of young adults during labour market training as a reciprocal process between students and teachers and tutors.

The method – the sequence map – for changing daily rhythm of students has been developed in an earlier project of the University of Helsinki, Department of Teacher Education and Väestöliitto – The Family Federation of Finland, which was funded by RAY- the Finnish Lottery Association in 2007-2010 (see Fågel, Jonsson, Korvela & Kupiainen 2011).

The data will be gathered by interviewing 40 students in focus groups in the beginning and at the end of the labour market training at Edupoli in the Helsinki area during 2012—2013. The total number of focus groups is 5 including a maximum of 8 students. The students in the training consist of young adults who have difficulties in completing the compulsory education or entering secondary-level vocational or further education after compulsory education.

The purpose of the study is to acquire information on the changes in the quality of life of students and the process of integration into the society and the labour market.
