Lutheran – Orthodox Dialogue from 2004 to 2015

The purpose of this website is to inform of all ongoing ecumenical dialogues between the Lutheran (including the German EKD) and the Eastern Orthodox Churches since 1995. It is thus a documentary sequel to my book: Risto Saarinen, Faith and Holiness: Lutheran – Orthodox Dialogue 1959 – 1994 (Göttingen: Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht 1997). Although the website is updated in collaboration with the participating organizations, all information represents only the author’s opinion. All pictures are from Damascus 2000 meeting.

I am slowly updating the information. A documentary history stretching until 2015 and covering all dialogues (I hope) is found here. The most important new book is Cosmin Daniel Pricop, From Espoo to Paphos: The Theological Dialogue of the Orthodox Churches with the Lutheran World Federation (1981-2008), Bukarest: Basilica Publishing House (Romanian Patriarchate), 2013, ISBN 978-606-8495-16-3, 558 pages.
Two excellent new Finnish dissertations have now been published in English by the Luther-Agricola Society in Helsinki (orders here). They are:
Hurskainen, Heta, Ecumenical Social Ethics as the World Changed. Socio-Ethical Discussion in the Ecumenical Dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland 1970‒2008. Helsinki 2013, 531 pages.
ISBN 978-951-9047-75-1.
Hellqvist, ElinaThe Church and its Boundaries. A Study of the Special Commission on Orthodox Participation in the World Council of Churches.Helsinki 2011, 325 pages. ISBN 978-951-9047-73-7

June 2018: I have now added the latest statement, Helsinki 2017, see all statements
