On 20 May, 2012, I’ll be speaking in the Frontiers in Phylogenetics Spring Symposium at the National Museum of Natural History, Washington, DC. The talks should be available on-line after the event.
PAGAN paper now in press
Our paper describing PAGAN, a new method for sequence alignment and alignment extension, has been accepted for Bioinformatics. A pre-print of the paper is available at Bioinformatics site and at the program home page.
Open positions
I have open positions for a Ph.D. student and a post-doc or a programmer. Some information is given here.
Although these web pages are still rather minimalistic, one should be able to get an idea of the topics studied in the group and see if those match with one’s own interests. In brief, it’s about evolutionary sequence analysis of (mostly) high-throughput sequencing data using computational methods.
Past news
Some positive decisions were taken before we moved to the blog space:
In the beginning of November, Andres received a grant from the Biocenter Finland Visitor Program, paying half of his salary for one year. In the end of November, I heard the first rumours that my Marie Curie Career Integration Grant application had received very favourable reviews. The negotiation procedure is highly formal (although that was far surpassed by the complexity of the application itself) and the EU-mandarins still insist that the approval is not guaranteed. Looks good anyway.
New web site — or a blog?
This is the new home page of the Löytynoja Lab at the Institute of Biotechnology. The main reasons to implement the group’s web site using a blogging system are practical, the ease of creating new pages and updating the information. The current content is static but these pages will hopefully evolve and, in the near future, contain regular updates and short comments and news.
