Huippuyksikön jäsenelle, tutkijatohtori Saana Svärdille myönnettiin dosentin arvo 21. elokuuta 2015. Tuore assyriologian dosentti iloitsee, että hänen tutkimuksensa ja opetuksensa on puolueettomassa asiantuntija-arviossa todettu riittäväksi dosentin arvoa varten. ”Aivan erityisesti ilahduttaa opetustaidon arviointi erinomaiseksi. Humanistisessa tiedekunnassa on kiristetty opetustaitovaatimuksia viimeisten vuosien aikana, mikä onkin tärkeää. Who was Sheshbazzar?
Sheshbazzar has been a bit of a mystery in discussions of Persian Period Yehud (Judah). He is only mentioned four times in the Hebrew Bible, each in Ezra, called variously “Prince of Yehud” and “governor.” Although almost always accepted as historical, the sparse attestation (including lack of patronymic), the apparent disjunction in titles, and an overlap in responsibilities with Zerubbabel have led to numerous scholarly theories on who Sheshbazzar was and what his role was. Yle Radio 1:n toimittaja Kalle Haatanen on tunnettu yleissivistävistä syvähaastatteluistaan: lauantaiaamupäivisin Haatanen tarjoaa kulloisellekin vieraalleen liki tunnin aikaa kertoa omista kiinnostuksenkohteistaan ja asiantuntemuksensa alueista. Elokuun viimeisenä lauantaina Haatasen vieraana kuultiin huippuyksikön jäsentä, tutkijatohtori Mika S. Pajusta, joka kertoi Qumranilta löydettyjen kirjakääröjen merkityksestä ja sisällöstä. Haastattelun taustalla oli pian ilmestyvä kirja Kuolleenmeren kadonnut kansa, jonka Pajunen on toimittanut yhdessä professori Raija Sollamon kanssa. Diversity in European Biblical and Cognate Studies
The annual meeting of the European Association of Biblical Studies was organized this year in the city of Cordoba, Spain (July 13–15). This beautiful Andalusian city is full of interesting history and modern life. What struck me most in the well-organized EABS conference, was the diversity of scholars and methods in the field of biblical and cognate studies.
