When you are given a user account at the University of Helsinki, you gain access rights to many services offered by the university. These services include computers on various campuses, personal home directories, e-mail, printing and other online university services.

Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for Microsoft Office 365 services (e.g. Outlook, Teams, OneDrive) was introduced at the University in 2021. Read more about multifactor authentication in the chapter Multifactor Authentication (MFA).

E-mail, calendar and cloud storage

A University of Helsinki user account grants you access to a university e-mail address and calendar. All firstname.lastname@helsinki.fi e-mail addresses are part of the same system. You can read your university e-mail with e-mail software. With the OWA application you can read university email via a browser OWA application.

The e-mail and the calendar are part of the University of Helsinki’s Office 365 service, which also give you access to OneDrive cloud storage space and many other useful features. In addition, you can install Office applications on your devices.

Home directory

The university user account includes personal storage space, i.e. a so-called home directory, on the university’s own network drive. The home directory can be found on university computers as a network drive indicated by the letter Z. The home directory can also be used with your own device anywhere.

Other online university services

The user account also gives access to other online services for students. These services include Studies Service. During your studies, you’ll also use learning environments such as Sisu Moodle, wikis, blogs and dozens of other university services.

The university’s computers and facilities

With the university user account, you can log in to the computers in the university’s common facilities. For some facilities, you can get a night access key with which you can enter the facilities also outside the official opening hours. More information about this can be found in chapter 2.2.

Printing

Printers that are intended for the use of students can be found on each campus. You can use all multi-function printers marked with Unigrafia stickers. To be able to print, you need to purchase printing balance in the Unigrafia balance store at http://tulostus.unigrafia.fi/tulostussaldo/.
