Dear friends and colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to the XII Subfossil Cladocera Workshop, which will be held in the Tvärminne Zoological Station in the southernmost coastal tip of Finland on June 11-14, 2012.

The Subfossil Cladocera Workshop is an informal and international meeting of people who work with subfossil remains of Cladocera in lake and wetland sediments and are interested in cladoceran ecology. The main goal of the workshop is to discuss topical methodological, taxonomical, and ecological aspects of subfossil Cladocera research. The scientific part of the workshop includes short presentations; both oral and poster, by participants about their ongoing work, and a microscoping session. Attention will be paid also to teaching young scientists in the field of subfossil cladocerans and paleolimnology. The workshop will follow the tradition of previous workshops and maintain the original informality and cozy atmosphere.

The tradition of Subfossil Cladocera Workshops began from Finland in 1999 when Prof. Atte Korhola gathered together a small group of people interested in subfossil cladocerans. Since then, until 2008, workshops have been held every year and after that every second year. The last workshop was organized in 2010 by Prof. Krystyna Szeroczyńska and her colleagues at the Institute of Geological Sciences, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw (Poland).

We warmly welcome you to participate to the next Subfossil Cladocera Workshop and hope to meet you in Finland in June!
