After studying in-depth family forest owners’ decision making strategies and communication preferences I have recently realized that no official professional decision aid service can ever feed the owners’ hunger of informal, cozy, and reliable interaction with their peer colleagues. This is why we have established a project endeavor for studying and developing peer-to-peer learning in context of forest owners’ decision making.
The project starts a new level in approaching owner-drivenness in forest planning. There will surely be space for professional advice as well, but now it is time to concentrate on peer learning. Our task is first to learn from international experiences and then to build and test a mentoring model that fits into the Finnish context. We will change ideas and experiences with Woodland Owner Networks in the US. Let’s see where we will come up with!
