Visit to Language Centre – Thanks ladies!

Anni welcomed us all, thanked our hosts for a great breakfast and invited everyone to the Christmas meeting of the network, which will be at the University Museum, with Moodle and mulled wine on offer. What should we know about Moodle? Apparently many teachers expect that we will provide the service of transferring their courses to Moodle.

January’s and March’s morning clubs are already fixed. Who would like to host the network in February? If it’s around Shrove Tuesday, then maybe it should be somewhere with a good sledging hill nearby.

Sari revealed that there are 8 applications for this years Education Technology Award, and by now the selection of the final contenders will have been made. It will be a good idea for us all to publicize the competition and successful entries in our own faculties.

Lis introduced us to the Language Centre, though many network members have studied there. The Language Centre are also old hands at e-Learning and have used web-based teaching since 1996 and have been rewarded with the Språknät optek prize in 1997 and order of merit in 2007 for Kaleidoskooppi, also from optek.

Marjukka presented the web-based language services of the centre, such as Tavataan taas, which has attracted much attention internationally.

Sinikka introduced the facilities for self-study at Aleksandria, where there are resources for studying more than 50 languages. The Language Centre also provides resources for language teaching via Alma.
