23.3.2012: Merkintöjä siitä kuinka taideteoksia suunnitellaan
Koska oma ryhmäni oli hukkateillä, aloitin perjantai-aamun Otaniemen Ympäristötaiteen talossa jäljittämällä muiden ryhmien työskentelyvaiheita. Yöeläimen keinoja käyttäen kuuntelin ja haistelin jälkiä, kunnes löysin IT-luokan nurkasta yhden tietokoneen takaa Picnic-ryhmän neljä jäsentä. Sain kuulla että ryhmä aloittaisi ensi viikolla muottien tekemisen ja sementin valamisen TaiKin tiloissa Arabiassa. Kumpulan ylipuutarhuriin oli jo otettu yhteyttä, jotta sopivat kasvit saataisiin multaan kesää varten.
World garden-ryhmä löytyi samasta tilasta. He olivat kuulemma parhaillaan kristallisoimassa lopullista ideaa. Heidän työnsä yhdistää yhteisötaiteen perinnettä. Kulttuurikeskus Caisasta ja ulkomaalaisten opiskelijoiden parista heidän olisi tarkoitus koota joukko Suomessa asuvia ulkomaalaisia, ja työskennellä yhteistyössä toteuttaen työ, joka käsittelisi kulttuurien yhteensulautumista. Ohjelmassa oli myös tarpeeksi suuren poran ja erilaisten esineiden etsintää..
Path to your window-ryhmän jäsenet olivat juuri löytäneet toisensa, ja lopullinen idea oli juuri kielen päällä. Kuulumisia kysellessäni ryhmä kertoi kokeneensa ala- ja ylämäkiä. Tuttu tunne! He kuitenkin korostivat pitävänsä toisistaan hyvin paljon, mikä on mielestäni paras lähtökohta yhteistyölle. Ylipuutarhuriin oli otettu yhteyttä teoksen tiimoilta ja vastausta odotettiin. Ymmärsin, että ryhmän lähestymistapa Aluevaltauksia-teemaan olisi hiukan käsitteellisempi muihin ryhmiin verrattuna. Huonekasvi ja ruukku liittyvät teokseen, mutta jäämme odottamaan lisätietoja.
Parasites-ryhmä katseli Youtube:sta high tech zootrooppi-videota. He ovat lähestyneet yleistä teemaa syvällisen parasiitti-pohdinnan kautta. Edellisellä kerralla kuulin ääniteoksesta ja dioraamasta, mutta tällä kertaa ryhmä katosi vikkelästi taiteiden talon kellariin kokeilemaan polkuyörän vannetta, strobo-valoa ja käsittääkseeni jonkinlaista esine- tai kuva-animaatiota.
The Intruder-ryhmä tapasi edellisellä viikolla ja käyskenteli Kumpulan lumisessa puutarhassa. Illan loppuun mennessä olimme tilanneet 200 voikukan siementä netistä. Mitähän teemme lopuilla 199 siemenellä?

23.2.2012: How to plan an art work
It took me a bit time to find the groups dispersed around the Environmental arts house in Otaniemi. After a while wandering round the unfamiliar corridors I decided to take on the technique used by most night living species: sounds and odours.. This brought me succes: I found the IT-class where Picnic group was working on the invitation. All four group members were packed tightly around one computer. That’s how team work is best done! I was told that they would start working on their art piece the following week. They were going to do some serious molding in concrete in Taik in Arabia. I wish I could take part in that too!
Also the world garden–group was working on ther computer part of the project. They told me they were just about to crystallize the main concepts of the piece. And also looking for a drill big enough to make holes in different objects. So exciting times! They were looking up some info and contacts. Their piece will involve some social and community art. I found they had contacted the Cultural Centre Caisa and foreign students. Their aim is to gather a group of people from different countries and origins to work in the project.
Path to your window- group had finally found each other and they’d just started crystallizing their part when I burged in the room to make an interview. I asked about their general feelings over the project and they told me of the ups and downs tahey’d experienced. But tehy highlighted that they really like each other! I would say that’s probably the best situation to start working together. Their approach to the main concept of reclaimed territories was a bit more conceptual art based. I was told the work may include a house plant in an environment you wouldn’t see it normally.. They’d contacted the head gardener of Kumpula garden, but were stil waiting for a reply.
Parasite- group was watching a wonderful video on Youtube about a high-tech zootrope. They’ve been thinking deeply about the importance of parasites in the world and evolution. They had a great idea to paratisize others’ art works in the exhibiotion in the summer, but this time they seemed to go in to a more sculptural direcions.
The Intruder group met earlier last week and wandered around Kumpula Garden’s wintery landscape. We’re agreed to work on a podium that would give the honour that the most hated and unwanted garden weed, common dandelion, would deserve. We purchased a package of 200 dandelion seeds from Ebay. I wonder what we will do with the 199 extra seeds we’re going to have after the exhibition..
