Meet HYY at the Welcome fair and the Opening carnival

Dear new student,

the Student Union of the University of Helsinki will also be present at the Welcome fair during Wednesday and Thursday. You will have the possibility to pay the membership fee in cash and get to know the student union benefits better. It is also possible to join the Student Union at the office at Mannerheimintie 5 A, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The deadline for the membership fee payment is on September 1st.

But, what is this union about and why would you want to join it?

Let us present it as one of our international students has written:
“In Finland, the Student Union (HYY) represents the interests of the students at the University of Helsinki. The members of its representative council and executive board are students: it is in their interest to make sure that student rights are maintained and improved. This has been extremely visible in my year at the University of Helsinki. HYY has amazed me by all the different benefits students receive thanks to their hard work. Cheap yet nutritious food organized by student restaurants, and buildings in the very center of the city for organizing meetings and social events. However, this is not any ordinary student structure. Rather, it’s a four-story building with multiple saunas, and it is only one of the buildings that can be utilized by students through HYY. In addition, they offer limitless help for the activities of different student associations, which can even include funding! The active association life of Finland is important, fun, and is helped tremendously by the Student Union.”

freshmanguideFind your own student community within the 250 student associations active within the Student Union. Some of them you can meet personally at the Welcome fair, more of them will be present at the Opening carnival in and around the main building and Porthania on 1st of September.
