This autumn the University of Helsinki is giving about 50 start-up grants to our international degree students. The International Student Grant, or ISG as we say, is meant for students who are accepted to study in one of the chosen International Master’s Degree Programmes. The amount of each grant will be 1000-1500 euro (paid once) and the application time is open until August 31st 2016 15:00 o´clock (Finnish time GMT +2).

If you are an international degree student moving to Finland from abroad and have already been accepted to the University of Helsinki, you can apply for the grant. You are eligible to apply as soon as you have accepted your placement and registered for studies at the University of Helsinki.

Improvisation and English lunches, a story of students of musicology visiting Oxford

We began planning the trip already in the fall of 2013. Our student organisation Synkooppi had not been abroad for quite a while, and some of us were eager for traveling abroad. At the meeting of the board of Synkooppi we chose the Perspectives on Musical Improvisation II conference in Oxford as the main objective of our study trip.

After applying for the grant for student organisations from the Student Services, getting the people together, booking hostels and flights, registering for the conference, and sending dozens of emails, our 9-person-group of students varying from undergraduate to PhD-student was ready to set course for London Gatwick on 8th of September 2014.

Grants for student organisations make many things possible

The University of Helsinki supports student organisations many ways.  For example  organisation can apply for a grant for study trips, organising seminars and congresses or visits by student organisations from abroad. Many dreams can be fulfilled with some financial help. Here is one story.

In September 2013, four students from the Faculty of Law, University of Helsinki were selected to represent the fictitious states of Amalea and Ritania in the “Case Concerning the Malachi Gap”. These students, under the helpful watch of two coaches, competed on behalf of Team Finland in the Philip C. Jessup International Mooting Competition 2014.
