Mikä AKVA-mentorointiohjelma on – What is AKVA-mentoring?

AKVA-mentorointiohjelma on tarkoitettu Helsingin yliopiston Akateemiset valmiudet-koulutuksessa  oleville opiskelijoille. AKVA-koulutuksen tavoitteena on parantaa osallistujien valmiuksia opiskella ja työskennellä Suomessa tarjoamalle heille mm. kieliopintoja ja opetusta suomalaisesta yhteiskunnasta. Opiskelijat ovat eri alojen korkeakoulutettuja tai korkeakoulukelpoisia maahanmuuttajia eri puolilta maailmaa. 

Mentorointiohjelma on osa AKVA-koulutusta ja se tähtää kokemustiedon välittämiseen suomalaisesta työelämästä ja työkulttuurista. Mentorina oma kansainvälinen kokemuksesi tai maahanmuuttajataustasi voi olla hyödyksi, mutta se ei ole välttämätöntä. Toivomme, että osaat sekä suomea tai englantia. AKVA-opiskelijoiden suomen ja englannin kielen taidot vaihtelevat. Pyrimme ottamaan tämän huomioon mentorointipareja muodostaessamme. Erityisesti toivomme mentoreilta avointa mieltä ja asennetta kulttuurienvälisyyttä kohtaan.  

Mentorina toimiminen vaatii sinulta sitoutumista ohjelman ajaksi. Sinulla ei kuitenkaan tarvitse olla aikaisempaa kokemusta, annamme sinulle tukea mentoriksi ryhtymiseen ja voit kääntyä puoleemme koko ohjelman ajan. 

Mentorina:

  • pääset jakamaan työelämätietouttasi ja -kokemuksiasi  
  • pääset kehittämään kulttuurienvälisiä vuorovaikutustaitojasi  
  • pääset vahvistamaan suomalaisen työelämän ja yhteiskunnan diversiteettiä 
  • saat hyvää kokemusta valmentavasta vuorovaikutuksesta 

AKVA-mentorointi pähkinänkuoressa:

  • On yksilömentorointia
  • Sisältää
    • Orientaatiotapaamisen (mentoreille ja aktoreille omansa)
    • Kaikille yhteisen aloitus- ja päätöstapaamisen
    • Puolivälissä ohjelmaa on mahdollisuus osallistua mentoreiden puolivälin tapaamiseen
    • Suosittelemme, että mentorointiparit tapaavat noin kerran kuukaudessa ohjelman aikana, osan tapaamisista voi hyvin toteuttaa etäyhteyksin

  • Mentoreiden orientaatio tiistaina 9.1.2024 klo 17.00-19.00 (Zoom)
  • Kick Off, ohjelman aloitustapaaminen keskiviikkona 17.1.2024 klo 17.00-19.00 (lähi, keskustakampus)
  • Puolivälin tapaaminen, keskiviikkona 13.3. 2024 klo 17.00-19.00, kuulumisten vaihtoa mentoreiden kesken (Zoom)
  • Wrap-Up, ohjelman päätöstilaisuus tiistaina 28.5.2024 klo 17.00-19.00 (lähi, keskustakampus) 

Mitä tapahtuu sitten?

  • AKVA- koulutuksen uraohjaaja järjestää kanssasi lyhyen Zoom-tapaamisen hakuajan jälkeen
  • Ohjelmasta vastaavat uraohjaajat muodostavat parit
  • Jokaiseen mentoriksi hakeneeseen ollaan yhteydessä joulukuun aikana
  • Tapaat oman aktorisi Kick Offissa, jossa pääsette tutustumisen ja mentoroinnin alkuun

What is AKVA – Mentoring Program? 

AKVA – Mentoring program is intended for students studying in Academic Preparatory Program at University of Helsinki. The aim of AKVA program is to improve the participants’ ability to study and work in Finland by offering them, for example, language studies and Finnish society studies. Students are highly educated or college graduate immigrants from different professional fields from all over the world.  The mentoring program is part of the AKVA program, and it aims to impart  knowledge of Finnish work-life and work culture. 

As a mentor, your own international experience or immigrant background may be useful, but it is not necessary. We hope that you know Finnish or English. Finnish and English skills of the AKVA students vary a lot  and we try to take this into account when forming pairs. In particular, we hope that the mentors will have an open mind and attitude towards multiculturalism.   

Being a mentor requires commitment from you during the whole program. You don’t necessarily have to have any prior experience in mentoring, we’ll give you enough support to become a mentor and you can contact us throughout the program. 

As a Mentor: 

  • you get to share your work-life knowledge and experiences  
  • you get to develop your intercultural interaction skills  
  • you will be able to strengthen the diversity of Finnish work-life and society  
  • you will gain good experience in coaching 

AKVA mentoring in a nutshell: 

  • One-to-one mentoring
  • Includes
    • orientation meeting for the mentors
    • Two sessions for all the participants: Kick-off and Wrap-up
    • Middle programme check point for mentors available for sharing experiences
    • We recommed you to meet your mentee once a month during the programme, some of the meetings can easily be carried out remotely, if you so agreed

Important dates: 

  • Orientation for the mentors on Tuesday 9.1.2024 at 17.00-19.00 (Zoom)
  • Kick-off  on Wednesday 17.1.2024 at 17.00-19.00 (city centre campus)
  • Mid programme check point for mentors on Wednesday 13.3.2024 at 17.00-19.00 (Zoom)
  • Wrap-Up on Tuesday 28.5.2024 at 17.00-19.00. 
  • Fill in the application by 19.11.2023

What happens then? 

  • Career counsellors from AKVA will have a short Zoom meeting with you after the applicatrion period 
  • Career counsellors will form the mentoring pairs
  • Every applicant will be contacted in December
  • You will meet your own mentee and get started in Kick Off session, where process of knowing each other and mentoring will start.
