May Friday 1 to Friday 8, 2015.

Deadline for applications: March 10, 2015

This is a advanced level intensive course held in Hyytiälä Forestry Field Station in Juupajoki, Finland.

Application by e-form:

For whom:

The summer school is mainly intended for Ph.D students, young scientist, and personnel from aerosol measuring stations involved in CRAICC, ACTRIS, GAW, GUAN, PEGASOS, and EMEP. The topics are interactively presented and discussed in English. Good English in understanding and speaking as well as basic aerosol knowledge is required.

Course aims:

This summer school is advanced course to deeper train aspects for atmospheric aerosol measurements: Physical, mechanical, and electrical properties, sampling losses, particle filters, impactors, mobility and aerodynamic size spectrometers, particle counters, integrating nephelometer, absorption photometers, online mass measurements, aerosol mass spectrometer, artefact-free sampling, and aerosol dryers.

The course consists of lectures, group work and introduction to the aerosol measurements at the Hyytiälä station.

The summer school is organized by the University of Helsinki, Department of within the frame of the EU-project ACTRIS as well as the GAW-WCCAP, iLEAPS, PEEX, the National ATM-DP Doctoral Programme, the Nordic Graduate School “Biosphere-Carbon-Aerosol-Cloud-Climate Interactions” (CBACCI), Nordic Master’s Degree Programme “Atmosphere-Biosphere-Studies” (ABS), and “The Centre of Excellence in Atmospheric Science – From Molecular and Biological Processes to the Global Climate”.

The responsible teacher is professor Kaarle Hämeri.

Other lecturers:
