Research team

Suvi Keskinen (Principal Investigator) is Professor in Ethnic Relations and Nationalism at the Swedish School of Social Science, University of Helsinki in Finland. During 2014-2019, she holds the Academy Research Fellow position. Her research interests include post/decolonial feminism, critical race and whiteness studies, politics of belonging, nationalism, political activism, and media coverage of migration and racism. She has published several books and edited Special Issues, as well as journal articles in for example Social Politics, Ethnicities, Nordic Journal of Migration Research, Critical Social Policy, Social Identities and Journal of Intercultural Studies.

Gwenaëlle Bauvois is Researcher at the Swedish School of Social Science, University of Helsinki and is based at the Centre for Research of Ethnic Relations and Nationalism (CEREN). She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Eastern Finland (2007). Her areas of expertise are ethnic relations, nationalism, right-wing populism and hybrid media. Her latest research projects: The Yellowsphere: Glocalisation of the Yellow Vests in Finland, Post-Truth Politics, Nationalism and the (De)Legitimation of European Integration, The Power of Narratives: Media and Democracy in Political Turmoil, and Mobilizing ‘the Disenfranchised’ in Finland, France and the United states. Post-truth public stories in the transnational hybrid media space.

Niko Pyrhönen is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for Research of Ethnic Relations and Nationalism (CEREN) at the Swedish School of Social Science, University of Helsinki. His areas of expertise include right-wing populist political and media mobilization (PhD 2015), politics of integration and multiculturalism, and nationalist news framing in transnational hybrid media space. His latest project was Mobilizing ‘the Disenfranchised’ in Finland, France and the United States. Post-truth Public Stories in the Transnational Hybrid Media Space (Helsingin Sanomat Foundation, 2017-2018).

Minna Seikkula is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for Research of Ethnic Relations and Nationalism (CEREN) at the Swedish School of Social Science, University of Helsinki. Her areas of expertise are Anti-racism, Critical Race Theory, Critical Border Studies, Intersectionality, Post-colonial and de-colonial theories.
