Asianet online summer courses

Asianet Online Summer Courses are open for application from 3 March to 14 April 2020.

During summer 2020, students will have the opportunity to study the following mater’s level courses:

Introduction to Mongolian Politics and Society (2 ECTS)

Introduction to Chinese Contemporary History (5 ECTS)

Introduction to Chinese History (5 ECTS)

Urban East Asia (3 ECTS)

For those with special interest in understanding of the social, economic and political transformation of China, the last three courses are designed precisely for you.

Through the courses, the students will be introduced to Chinese history from the beginning of the Chinese civilization to the present, as well as major events, figures and policies. The courses will discuss political development and change of the Chinese state, Chinese political philosophy and statecraft, dynastic political system, communist revolution, Mao Zedong and his legacy, the Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution, Deng Xiaoping and the reform era policies. Issues relating to urbanization and urban sustainability in China, including dynamics of urbanization, urban governance, sustainability of cities, and international city networks, will also be addressed.

The summer courses are open free of charge to degree students and registered exchange students at one of the member universities of the Finnish University Network for Asian Studies (Asianet), namely Aalto University, University of Helsinki, University of Jyväskylä, Tampere University, University of Turku, University of Vaasa and Åbo Akademi University.
