Kaisa Kantola Receives Grant from Jenny & Antti Wihuri Foundation

The University of Helsinki Chinese Studies team member Kaisa Kantola has received a grant of 24 000€ for the purpose of writing her doctoral thesis. Kantola’s thesis is titled “Sources of Legitimacy of the Chinese Communist Party Rule –  Role of Ideology in Legitimacy Building”. The grants were awarded in a gala event at the Finlandia hall on October 9th, 2017.

The Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation gave out a total of 12 million euros in grants and awards. This is the largest amount distributed in the history of the Foundation. Grants were awarded to 331 private persons and working groups and 104 to organizations, altogether to 435 applicants.

The Foundation received 4 903 grant applications which summed up to 99 million euros. 12 % of the applied amount could be distributed.

During the past 75 years, the Foundation has distributed 297 million euros in today’s money.
