Seminar “Tools for Transformational Research on the Belt & Road Initiative”

Speaker: Daniele Brombal (Ca’ Foscari University Venice)

Time: 10:15-11:30, Wednesday 13 November

Venue: Päärakennus, Sali 4, University of Helsinki

Mainstream research on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) highlights its potential in fostering material growth. This reflects a widespread endorsement of pro-development and modernist narratives among the academic community. Against this background, the potential of the BRI to trigger a forward-looking reflection on the way(s) Eurasian cultures envision socio-ecological relations remains largely unexplored. This presentation aims at providing theoretical and methodological tools useful to explore this uncharted territory. It also provides a hands-on account of the first steps towards the establishment of a community of scholars committed to a transformative engagement with the BRI.
