Early Career Champions will have four workshops with different themes during its term.

1st workshop

The first workshop was held on October 9, 2023. The theme was “Career planning and career paths”, and the workshop was held by career counsellor Ina Grönlund from the University of Helsinki Career Services. The workshop was held in Zoom

2nd workshop

The second workshop was on January 31, 2024 in Nairobi. The theme of the workshop was “Entrepreneurship and hybrid careers”. We had tour at the Silk Origin Limited and a talk from the company’s enterpreneur Peter Karimi.

3rd workshop

The third workshop will be in May 2024 in Zoom. The theme of the workshop will be “How to involve citizens and have a societal impact with your research”.

Extra workshop

We will organize an extra workshop on grant writing in September 2024. The workshop will be held in Zoom.

4th workshop

The fourth workshop will be held in November 2024 in Helsinki. The theme of the workshop will be “Stakeholder Management and Collaboration”.

Visits to Helsinki and Nairobi

The members of the program will visit both universities during 2023–24. During those visits participants will have the opportunity to visit different research groups and learn different research aspects of both universities.

Mentor-mentee mentoring sessions

All mentees will be paired with one mentor from both universities. The mentoring sessions will start in autumn 2023 and members can choose the schedule and occurrence of those meetings according to their timetables and wishes. Each member of ECC program should have at least three mentoring sessions.

Yearly challenge

All mentees will participate in a yearly challenge which will be a public outreach activity. Each mentee will be paired with another mentee from a different university and they will plan and implement the same public outreach activity. The difference will be that the other will implement it in Helsinki and the other one in Nairobi.
