Professor Juha Oikkonen’s Honorary Conference Gathered Mathematics Educators

On October 25-26, 2019, an honorary conference celebrating professor Juha Oikkonen’s prominent work in the field of Mathematics Education was held in Kumpula Campus. The conference was organized in connection with the annual meeting of Finnish Mathematics and Science Education Research Association.

Juha Oikkonen is well known figure and actor in the Finnish mathematics education field. He has developed mathematics teaching at the University of Helsinki towards more student centered direction which has, for example, improved the number of degrees. He has put a lot of effort to teacher education and is also working in the Finnish matriculation examination board. Many Finnish mathematicians, mathematics educators, and students respect Juha’s inspiring and often very concrete approach to teaching mathematics.
