Welcome to Conference on Meaningful Relations in Aging and Dying, Helsinki

The Conference on Meaningful Relations in Aging and Dying covers various aspects of aging and dying, specifically focusing on meaningful relations during these phases of life. It is a multi-disciplinary conference open to all disciplines, including, but not limited to, law, social and care work, theology, social sciences, and for people working with elderly or dying persons. The conference is organized 28-30 August 2019 Helsinki, Finland.

The call for papers is open until the 1st of March, 2019 and the registration is already open. We welcome all registered people to participate our conference days.

We are expecting to have fascinating days with keynotes and presentations covering multiple disciplines.  Professor Nigel King (Applied Psychology, University of Huddersfield) presents us how roles and relationships play a role in palliative care. Professor Rosie Harding’s (Law and society, Birmingham Law School) lecture deepens our understanding of relationality in decision making at the end of life. The process of meaning making in aging is dealt by Professor Hans Stifoss-Hanssen (Centre of Diaconia and Professional Practice, VID Specialized University, Oslo).

We are also happy to introduce our panel discussion! The panel will focus on the topic of multicultural care of aging and dying. Dr. Piret Paal, Prof. Dr. Christa Anbeek and Prof. Dr. Sirpa Wrede will provide us experience and knowledge from nursing, theology and social sciences. Furthermore, the papers and posters leads us to various aspects and questions of aging and dying. In addition as part of the paper presentations, the MeRela project will introduce results from the project dealing with home-based palliative care in Finland.
