Dress Code

The way the participants in the Conferment Ceremony should dress is ruled by old academic protocol. Following the protocol, while it might seem stiff, is a way to ensure that the event continues the long line of traditions, one of the oldest ones of the academic world. Each group of participants – doctors, companions and guests – has its own dress code, which are listed here below. You can find more information, as well as photos, if you click on the links.

At the end of the list are some common guidelines for all the groups on how to dress for the outing. In case you have any questions, please contact the Coordinator at el-promootio@helsinki.fi.

The Confirmation Outing

The outing is the most informal part of the festivities, and the dress code is smart casual. A lunch buffet at a restaurant will be served during the outing, so jeans, sportswear or clothing with printed ads are not suitable. Women could wear for example a comfortable skirt and knit or trousers. For men, e.g. corduroy or cotton /linen trousers, shirt with a knit or a blazer. Those who have the Finnish baccalaureate student cap should wear it all through the outing.
