Think Corner 2015

Maahanmuutto ja etniset suhteet Suomessa (Immigration and ethnic relations in Finland)  event was held in Think Corner on 25th March 2015. The event was organized by the ESSO research group and the Centre of Expertise in Integration of Immigrants, which functions under the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.

The aim of the event was to create ties between researchers and policy-makers by discussing what kind of research policy-makers would need and what kind of practical solutions researchers could provide. These themes were approached through four presentations:

  1. Karmela Liebkind (University of Helsinki, social psychology): Tilaisuuden avaus (Introduction)
  2.  Annika Forsander (The head of the Centre of Expertise in integration of immigrants): Kotouttaminen Suomessa – Missä mennään ja missä pitäisi mennä? (Integration in Finland – Where are we now and where should we go?)
  3. Sirkku Varjonen & Emma Nortio (University of Helsinki, social psychology): Maahanmuuttajien ja suomalaisten näkemykset monikulttuurisuudesta (Immigrants´and Finns´views about multiculturalism)
  4. Inga Jasinskaja-Lahti & Tuuli Anna Mähönen (University of Helsinki, social psychology): Etniset suhteet Suomessa: nykytila ja tulevaisuudennäkymät (Ethnic relations in Finland: The present state and the prospects)

After the presentations the audience had an opportunity to ask questions and discuss more about the topics. Presentations awoke broad discussion for example about intercultural families and the use of the concept of multiculturalism.
