Vulnerability Assessment of Ecosystem Services for Climate Change impacts and Adaptation – VACCIA studies the climate change impacts on ecosystem services provided by Finland’s natural resources, and the possibilities for adaptation by human society. The project belongs to the European Union Life+ programme.
Contributors to this extensive project include the Finnish Environment Institute SYKE, the Finnish Meteorological Institute and the universities of Helsinki, Jyväskylä and Oulu.
As a part of this project we clarify how climate change will influence the forest production and production conditions and how that will influence the productivity of alternative silvicultural schemes. The modelling of this activity aims at linking continuous measurements of climate and the response of forest to that with a forest growth model based on biological growth processes. Important part of the project is communication of the expected findings to key stakeholder groups in forestry and based on the interaction with them we will analyse the impact of using inappropriate forest management under climate change and predict how the regional forest structure and the income of the forest owners will be changing.
