I’m studying CO2 fluxes and carbon balance of forest ecosystems.

My educational background is in plant biology (PhD, University of Helsinki, Faculty of Biosciences), in the past I also studied engineering and physics at the University of Technology, Espoo.

I’m combining two approaches to study the CO2 exchange processes: Integration of small-scale processes over time and space into long-term C balances of the forest stand, and direct measurements of ecosystem C balance, photosynthetic production and respiration by eddy covariance.

Right now I’m working on European carbon monitoring infrastructure (ICOS) and studying how global warming is affecting forest productivity in Finland in the future (project VACCIA)

My other research interests are
– continuous gas exchange measurements at SMEAR I and II research stations
– photosynthesis and its annual cycle
– radiative transfer in tree canopies
– stem CO2 effluxes
– maintenance and further improvement of stand model SPP developed by the Forest Modelling Group.
