Korona-aika rajoituksineen on pakottanut myös geotieteiden opiskelijat kohta jo lähes kokonaisen vuoden ajan etäpainotteisiin opintoihin. Tammikuulle alun perin päättymään suunniteltu lähiopetusrajoitus jatkuu näillä näkymin ainakin maaliskuun puoliväliin ja myös neljännen periodin lähiopetusjärjestelyt ovat tätä kirjoitettaessa vaakalaudalla. Zoom-luennoista on tullut jo lähes rutiinia ja monia niin kotisohvalta opiskelu kuin opettaminen alkavatkin jo varmasti puuduttaa.

The Faculty of Science produced this week the final numbers of graduated students in 2020. Despite the effects of covid-related difficulties last year, also both geoscience programmes saw some increase in the amount of graduates.
Growing international student interest in the Geology and Geophysics MSc Programme
International student interest in the Master’s program in Geology and Geophysics has continued to grow since its establishment in 2017, with a 35% increase in the number of applications for autumn 2021 compared to a year ago.
First meeting of the joint programme boards // Johtoryhmien ensimmäinen yhteiskokous
The first joint meeting of the geo degree programme boards was held on Friday, January 15. Most of the three-hour meeting was dedicated to getting the boards organized and going through multiple agenda items from starting the FIN-GEO network preparations to getting the teaching plan organized for the academic year 2021-2022. We also had a guest speaker, as vice-dean of teaching Hannu Toivonen gave a short address to initiate the four-year term of board activities.
Geo-degree programme annual teachers’ meeting Jan 13 // Geo-ohjelmien vuosittainen opettajatapaaminen 13.1.2021
Teachers involved in the geo-degree programmes had their traditional start of the year meeting on Wednesday, January 13. Usually the meeting has taken place somewhere off-campus and included workshops and some more unofficial discussions for a better part of a full day but due to the current restrictions this year’s meeting was shorter and took place on Zoom.

FIN-GEO education network receives MinEdu funding // FIN-GEO -koulutusverkostolle OKM:n merkittävä rahoitus
The FIN-GEO education network received a significant amount of targeted funding from the Ministry of Education autumn call 2020 for the years 2021-2023.
New board members // Johtoryhmien uudet jäsenet
The Dean of the Faculty of Science has appointed new boards for the BSc Programme in Geosciences and MSc Programme in Geology and Geophysics. The boards will work together in the 2021-2024 term and have joint monthly admin meetings. The boards will also work under a single director for the following four years and the admin practices will be consolidated.
Matemaattisluonnontieteellisen tiedekunnan dekaani on nimittänyt Geotieteiden kandiohjelmalle ja Geologian ja geofysiikan maisteriohjelmalle uudet johtoryhmät hallintokaudelle 2021-2024. Johtoryhmät työskentelevät seuraavan neljän vuoden ajan yhdessä ja niillä on yhteiset kuukausittaiset kokoukset. Koulutusohjelmien johtajana toimii vuoden 2021 alusta sama henkilö ja hallintoprosesseja yhdenmukaistetaan toimintojen keventämiseksi.
