Lena Näre

LenaMy postdoctoral research within the Glocalising Care Work -project has focused on the employment and recruitment of migrant workers in elderly care in the private and public sector. I have also examined the everyday practices of elder care when conducting participant observation in a municipal care home with Antero Olakivi. I have analysed how Finnish employers perceive and envision migrant work force in elder care (Näre 2013) in general, and how Filipino nurse recruitment is constructed in Finland in particular (Näre 2012). During the Glocalising Care Work –project I have interviewed representatives of the private elder care sector, including small businesses and entrepreneurs as well as large elder care companies that offer various care services. The case study on the recruitment of Filipino nurses to Finland included interviews with 17 nurses and the representatives of the recruitment company.
